Project statement
When it rains, I spend time in the forest co-creating with rain, sunlight, and shifting atmospheric conditions as they interact on sheets of light-sensitive paper coated with iron salts or plant materials. This practice highlights the temporal and spatial dynamics of precipitation that sustain plant life and drive photosynthesis. The resulting marks serve as symbols of vital ecological exchange—where water returns to soil and where we, as inhabitants on this Earth, come to recognize our embeddedness within the living environment, experienced as a shared, entangled ecology.
This ongoing project began during record level drought conditions in October 2022, a year after wildfires, successive atmospheric rivers and landslides changed the landscape of BC.
The accompanying soundscape, Alternate Channels, is a compilation of ambient sounds recorded while I engage in this work and serves as a reminder of species interdependence that relies on the type of attention we give to environmental health.
